WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!!!
2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR
Dear D-5 Families,
Welcome back to school! I hope that everyone is having a wonderful summer and is looking forward to starting a new school year! I am so excited to meet our children on our first school day, August 29th and to meet Moms and Dads at Back to School night scheduled for Wednesday, August 31 @ 7:00 PM. Summer around the Vile household has been very busy. My husband Tom and I have two boys, Joe and Michael. In July, we spent a week and a half on our first road trip exploring a few cities south of us in Maryland and Virginia. In addition, we did many day trips to the beach, saw a lot of movies in the theatre and played with friends. My boys start school next week at Newtown Elementary School. My son, Joe, is starting 2nd grade and Michael is starting kindergarten. Time is flying by!
I am looking forward to getting to hear your child’s summer stories. I know that they use this time to relax, spend time on their hobbies, and re-connect with friends and family. I would love for each child to bring in a picture of a summer memory that they can keep in their writer’s notebook. We will use it as a springboard to write as we let go of summer and open our arms to fall. In addition, there are two items that I would love for the children to have that are not on our supply list: 3 packs of notecards and 3 pads of sticky notes (3” x 3”). Last year, we used those to help develop study strategies for science and social studies. It really helped our children be successful last year, and I would like to try it again. If you don’t have time to get out right now, please send them in within the next few weeks of school starting.
For the first day of school, please have your child bring in his or her supplies. Our list is posted on our website. They will also need to bring a a water bottle and a healthy snack that can be eaten in about 10 minutes. Children who plan to pack should bring their lunch and buyers should make sure to update their lunch account with money as lunches are not free this school year. Finally, please have your child bring a book to read each day. We will be going over healthy reading habits and expectations on the first week of school.
I am looking forward to starting a new year, and I know that it's going to be a great one! As in years past, I find it very helpful to get some information from you regarding your child, so this email requests a little homework from you. I hope to hear from all of you! I'm not looking for complete sentences, there are no right or wrong answers, there is no sentence minimum and I'm not grading your spelling, so please respond to this survey in any form that's convenient for you! (It's probably easiest to hit reply and respond in the body of the email! Also, please don't feel obligated to answer every question!)
See you all soon!
Your 5th Grade Teacher,
Mrs. Kimberly Vile
